Board of Directors

Flagstaff Academy, a public charter school within the St. Vrain Valley School District, is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is made up of a dedicated group of volunteers who make the strategic decisions to keep our school's operations in line with our mission and vision by providing the school administration the necessary resources and support to be successful. The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the annual school budget, reviewing and approving the school curriculum, establishing policies and procedures consistent with Flagstaff's mission, hiring the Executive Director, long range planning, site and facility development, and many other decisions relating to the direction, financing, and operation of Flagstaff Academy. The Board of Directors oversee several committees that report recommendations and serve to help the Board of Directors govern the school. Board of Directors members serve three-year terms and are elected to the Board of Directors by Flagstaff Academy parents.

Flagstaff Academy is governed by a Board of Directors in accordance with the bylaws of the organization. The Board of Directors consists of committed and dedicated volunteers who may be parents of Flagstaff Academy students or other community members, and whom must share and uphold the vision and mission of Flagstaff Academy. The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the annual school budget, reviewing and approving the curriculum, establishing policies and procedures consistent with Flagstaff's mission, hiring the principal, long range planning, site and facility development, and much more.

President- Mr. Chris O'Hara

Chris O’Hara is a founding Principal of Studio NYL a structural engineering and façade consulting firm in Boulder. He has worked in the design industry for over 20 years and has run Studio NYL for the past 11 working on distinctive architectural projects worldwide. Chris also serves on the board of directors for the American Institute of Architects locally as the Knowledge Director and is a board member of the Native American Sustainable Housing Initiative. He holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana. Chris lives in Longmont with his wife Elizabeth O’Hara and sons, James and Jack, who are both Dragons.Chris will take his background in design and construction to the facilities committee. He and his family spend much of the winter skiing and summers by the pool when not supporting the boys in their sports throughout the year.

Vice President- Mr. Brendan Meuse

Brendan Meuse received his master’s degree in mathematics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. As an undergraduate, he studied engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder before earning his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and certificate to teach from the University of Southern Mississippi. While at Virginia Tech, Brendan helped develop the courseware for undergraduate mathematics and engineering programs used to establish the Virginia Tech Math Emporium. The Math Emporium hosts 550 workstations and serves as a 24-hour learning and study center for undergraduate mathematics and engineering students. Brendan is currently the Director of Revenue Management and Pricing at DigitalGlobe, a publicly traded geospatial solutions company headquartered in Westminster. His team provides business intelligence metrics, pricing, scheduling and production planning, and custom proposals to support the company’s profitable revenue growth. As a member of the Flagstaff Academy Board of Directors, Brendan will emphasize the value of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) in developing students into well-rounded leaders. He enjoys cooking, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, volleyball, and spending time with his wife and five children (all current and former Dragons). You can often find him with his family in a small, pop-up camper somewhere in the hills.

Treasurer- Mrs. Debbie Nelson

Debbie Nelson received a Master in Professional Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin in May 1993.  She has over 15 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant with significant focus on  financial statement review, technical writing and educational development. Ms. Nelson has been a Flagstaff parent since 2011 and has served our community by being a Room Parent, serving on the Middle School Room Parent Committee and  volunteering for PTO events.  She currently does not work outside the home and focuses her time on her family and other volunteer efforts. Ms. Nelson loves to run, bike, ski, and cook and lives in Niwot with her husband, two girls, and son.

Secretary- Mr. Paul Shoning

Paul Shoning is a business attorney for VMware – a software company based in Silicon Valley. Prior to moving in-house with VMware, Paul represented VC-backed technology companies in all aspects of forming, financing and running venture-backed businesses. Before practicing law, Paul served in a variety of roles as an officer in the Navy’s Special Operations community. Paul earned his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School. He also holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and the United States Naval Academy respectively. Paul lives in Erie with his wife Caryne and sons Colin and Adam. When not helping with his sons’ school and sport activities, Paul enjoys many of Colorado’s water activities - fly-fishing, sailing and skiing.

Director- Mrs. Angela Groeninger

Angela Groeninger earned her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and joined Xilinx as a new college grad. She is still with Xilinx in Longmont and is now the Director of Technical Support for North America. Ms. Groeninger is involved with community engagement programs throughout Xilinx, including the Educational Ecosystem partnership with Flagstaff. She is also on the Board for the OUR Center in Longmont, helping to strengthen our local community. Ms. Groeninger and her husband, Matt, have three children – two current and one future dragons.



Director- Mrs. Elizabeth Lenski

Elizabeth Lenski began her career in her native Costa Rica in a finance role where she was involved with micro-lending programs for individuals and small businesses. After moving to the US, she worked for six years in the staffing industry where she became well-versed in human resources and employee retention programs. She moved out of staffing and accepted a position with the City of Longmont where she worked with community outreach programs for youth and families. She later migrated to a staff position with the City of Longmont Community and Neighborhood Resources supporting development, integration and diversity. For the past six years she has functioned as the Business Director for the Wild Plum Center for Young Children and Families, an institution dedicated to providing early childhood education and development services to Longmont’s low income families. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Management from Colorado State University. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. In addition to her professional credentials, she is an active volunteer at Flagstaff Academy. She lives in Longmont and has two children Samantha and Aidan who are in seventh and fourth grades, respectively. During her free time she enjoys cooking, listening to Latin music and taking long walks with her husband and dog, as well as at the swimming pool with her family.

Director- Dr. Kumar Navulur

Dr. Kumar Navulur is Senior Director of Strategic Programs at DigitalGlobe. He received his doctoral degree from Purdue University in Engineering. Dr. Navulur is a Geospatial Advisor to various global organizations such as the United Nations, World Bank, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and others. He is also the president of DigitalGlobe Foundation, a non-profit charter that promotes geospatial capacity building around the globe. He is author of the book on satellite remote sensing that is taught in curriculum across various universities globally. He and his family love Flagstaff Academy, the teachers, staff and the culture and the science and technology-focused approach to education.  He has two kids, Carter and Eliza, who are both Dragons! His wife, Raelene Navulur was the past president of PTO and currently serves as the executive board member of the PTO. He loves to play golf and is an avid Broncos fan.
