About Mrs. Herrera
I have a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's in teaching. Before becoming a teacher, I spent 20 years in publishing, which gave me a strong foundation for connecting classroom learning to the real world. I’ve now been teaching for seven years, and I absolutely love working with middle school students—their curiosity, humor, and creativity make every day rewarding.
Both of my children, Maxwell and May, attended Flagstaff Academy from preschool through 8th grade. During those years, I was deeply involved in the school community through various volunteer roles. That connection continues to mean a lot to me. Maxwell is now a college freshman at the University of Colorado Boulder, and May is a junior at Niwot High School.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy being with my children, traveling, visiting with friends and family, and quiet moments with a good book, a strong cup of coffee, and the company of my kitties. I strive to create a classroom environment that is nurturing yet academically rigorous, where kindness, respect, and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do.
