Middle School Music Curriculum Map
Performance First!
The heart of music education should always be performance, and the music we play at concerts is the vehicle for important musical concepts like rhythm, tone quality, dynamic contrast, tuning, blend, and much more! The selections change every year and are chosen specifically to fit the needs of the ensemble. Though the concepts they contain are universal, the responsive nature of selecting music to fit an ensemble make it difficult to predict exactly which concepts will be focused on at any given time of year.
Learning to Compose!
Mr. Kemp's differentiated music composition curriculum is a sequential path for young musicians to learn how to write music. We will work our way through the path with once-per-week lessons and activities. Where students begin on the path will depend on what they can already do, but you can follow this link to read more about the sequence!
