Middle School Course Registration Instructions

To make the middle school course registration process as simple as possible, we have created this easy to follow step-by-step guide. We recommend having the Flagstaff Course Catalog nearby for easy reference as your student works through the course selection process for next school year.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to sit with their student(s) as they select their courses as they will need to sign off on their selections as the final step.

It is highly recommended that students use a desktop computer or Chromebook. Attempting to access the course selection guide on a mobile device will result in a warning message. If a desktop is not available to you, please contact [email protected] for support.

Students will not select a math class during course registration. Teachers suggest Math class placements for students at the end of the current school year. Math courses are added to student schedules once class placement suggestions are received.

Step 1: Log Into Infinite Campus

Current Flagstaff Academy and St. Vrain Valley School District students and/or parents must log into the Infinite Campus "Campus Student" Portal with their assigned username and password. Families may log into either the Parent or Student Portal to choose courses.

Step 2: Access Course Selection Page

Step 3: Select Core Classes

It is not necessary to select courses for all three years of middle school, even though that is an option in Infinite Campus. Students are only required to select courses for the coming school year.

Core classes (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) are available at an Honors level or Grade level. Students can opt into Honors classes of their choosing. Any student choosing Honors Language Arts is required to also take our foreign language offering of Spanish.

Students will not select a math class during course registration. Teachers suggest Math class placements for students at the end of the current school year. Math courses are added to student schedules once class placement suggestions are received.

In Infinite Campus, students can search for and add courses using the Course Catalog search menu at the top, or if you know the course name or course number, you can add the courses directly to your plan.

To add a course when using the catalog search at the top, click the "Add to Grade" button.

As courses are added, the number of credits is updated. The credits assigned to a course are directly to the right of the course name.
When the student has met the number of requirements, the alert shown in the screenshot below will disappear.
Repeat these steps for each core class. At the end of the process, you should have a clear idea of what courses your student will be taking.

Step 4: Select Essentials / Electives Classes

It is not necessary to select courses for all three years of middle school, even though that is an option in Infinite Campus. Students are only required to select courses for the coming school year.

As students select Essentials courses, be sure to review all prerequisites for each selected elective. Also pay attention to which courses are semester-long and year-long courses, as not all electives are the same.

Year-long courses = 1.0 credits.

Semester-long courses = 0.5 credits

Students should select ONLY 4.0 credits worth of Essentials (see "correct" example above). If a student selects more than 4.0 worth of Essentials credits (see "incorrect" example above), the system does not know which electives to prioritize. See Step 5 below for instructions on adding alternate choices.

Some courses require students to submit an application to participate. There are links in the course catalog to the applications if required.

Registration priority is given to 8th grade students, then 7th grade students, then 6th grade students. Every intention is made to fulfill student choice; however, schedules are built first to accommodate Core classes.

Step 5: Select Alternate Essentials/Elective Courses

Adding alternate Essentials courses is done the same way as primary Essentials were added. Alternates are a student's second choice should their primary selections not be available. Essentials alternates should be listed in order of preference using the two arrows next to the course name.

Students are to select a minimum of four alternate Essentials credits. If one or more of the primary Essentials courses that a student selected does not fit into their schedule, alternate selections are considered. If alternate Essentials are not selected, courses will be chosen for the student by administration.

Alert Displays:

An alert will display when courses that must be taken in the same school year (i.e. jazz band and advanced band) are not selected properly.
The below alert will display when saving course selections. If you are confident that all required courses have been selected for the coming school year, please select "OK."

When all selections are complete, click "Save" at the bottom.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I do not select Core classes in the registration process?

All students must take four core classes. Compass is automatically assigned to all sixth grade students. Students without the required four core classes will be assigned to the grade level courses at the discretion of staff.

What if I change my mind later regarding the electives that I requested and the window is closed?

It is very important that you carefully consider and select your electives as well as verify your preloaded courses. The master schedule is completely built upon student requests.
Once the schedule is built, unless there is an error, schedule changes are not permitted.

When will I see my schedule for the next school year?

Final schedules for the next school year will be available in Infinite Campus beginning in August. You may be able to view your schedule prior to that date, and parents will be notified when and if schedules are available earlier. It is important to verify your schedule prior to the start of the school year.
