Welcome to 6th Grade

Mission and Vision

The mission of the sixth grade team is to provide space for students to grow and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We strive to instill a desire for lifelong learning and a willingness to approach challenges with an open mind and the tools to problem solve. We will work collaboratively with students, families, and the rest of the Flagstaff Academy team to help and encourage students to become responsible citizens with strong skills and respectful habits.

We recognize that sixth grade is unique in that it is a major transition from previous school experiences. It is our goal to prepare our students for seventh grade by providing instruction and content that aligns with the scope and sequence of the upper middle school grades. Flagstaff Academy students will leave the sixth grade with a firm understanding of what it takes to recognize and respect our differences and perspectives, and how to make positive contributions to our school community and beyond.

Homework Guidelines:
It is our hope that students use the class time provided to complete the majority of their assignments. Math will require nightly homework and Language Arts will have a weekly assignment of completing one My Path unit in iReady. Other classes may require some additional work at home on occasion. We believe that children should have time to explore other interests, spend time with family, and go outside to play. If a student is spending more than an hour on homework each night, please reach out to the teacher to determine the best course of action.

Bell Schedule:
This is found on the Middle School home page. In general, lunch/recess is from 1:15-1:45 Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays and from 1:00-1:35 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Students also have a walking break sometime between 10:00-10:45, depending on the day, where they are encouraged to eat a snack while walking with friends.
