The Green Team proudly presents the PBIS Project for April

Please scroll down, as there are three parts to our project.
Part One:
  • Community Cleanup

Who: All Flagstaff Academy families

What: Families can join together to clean up trash and recycling in our community.

When: Saturday, April 13 10am-2pm

Where: meet at the Flagstaff Academy parking lot to register and get supplies

Why: We have observed a lot of trash around our school and in Longmont and would like to have families work together to make a positive difference for humans and other animals.

Additional Details: Gloves, bags and snacks will be provided. Bring your own reusable water bottle and lunch.

RSVP: Is not required, but is encouraged. Please use Google Form.

Part Two:
  • School Campus Cleanup

Who: Staff and students

What: Clean up an area of our school.

When: anytime during the month of April

Where: sign up to clean up an area of our school using the Google Sheets (staff will have access).

Why: We have observed a lot of trash around our school and would like our classmates and staff members to help keep our learning area healthy and clean

Part Three:
  • Upcycled Art Garden

Who: Students, staff and families of Flagstaff Academy

What: An indoor garden made of trash or hard to recycle materials.

When: April 8-30.  Bring in your art starting April 8. Must pick up art and bring home on April 30.

Where: art will be displayed around the school on top of cubbies and outside of classrooms.

Why: We aim to bring awareness to the problem of pollution at Flagstaff Academy and the greater Longmont community by turning the problem into something beautiful. We want to emphasize the concept of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

How: Get inspired by visiting the Elementary Science Lab to view the Green Team’s Upcycled Art Garden.  Create your own upcycled garden art at home and bring into school OR create art in your classroom (facilitated by your classroom teacher).

Criteria

  • Use items that would be trash or hard to recycle materials
  • Items are clean
  • Garden theme (flowers, insects, spiders, plants, gnome, etc)
  • Size:
    • maximum height and width 16”

What’s the difference between upcycle and recycle:

Upcycling something doesn't require you to break down the old material through chemical processes. Recycling is totally breaking down an old item to its previous raw state and creating something new. When you upcycle an item, you aren’t breaking down the materials. You may be refashioning it — like cutting a T-shirt into strips of yarn — but it’s still made of the same materials as when you started.
