Meet the 4th Grade Team » Homework Policy

Homework Policy

Homework this year will consist of the 3 R’s:

  • Reading: We strongly encourage reading nightly (20 minutes), as it is a necessity to continue reading success in third grade. Reading can be independent or co-reading with a parent or a sibling.

  • Recitation:
    • Math Homework: There will be nightly Math homework (5-8) problems.
    • Spelling: Spelling words will be sent in the Weekly Update on Fridays, which will give them one whole week to prepare for the spelling test the following Friday.  Please make sure you are practicing them every night as part of their homework.
    • Writing/CKLA: Students will occasionally have to work on their writing from class or read a short passage and respond to it in their CKLA workbooks.

  • Recreation: Movement and exercise is a component of homework! We ask that your child engage in some form of exercise or physical activity on a nightly basis. The goal is to raise the heart rate and get moving!

Late Policy: If your child does not complete and/or turn in their homework or daily classroom assignments, your child will be informed by their teacher that it wasn't received. If we see a pattern emerge, you will receive an email from your child's teacher and perhaps a phone call. Your child will be given an option to complete the homework and/or incomplete work during Driveline with their teacher.  All learning tasks/homework are due the day after the Unit/Topic Test, anything after that will not be accepted nor will credit be given.  No late work will be accepted within a week of quarter ending. Thank you for your support and reinforcement with the homework late policy!
