Flagstaff Academy Receives Top-Tier Colorado Shines Rating for Early Childhood Program

The Flagstaff Academy Charter School preschool program has received a Level 5 quality rating from Colorado Shines, the state’s quality rating and improvement system for early care and learning programs. A Level 5 is the highest possible rating, underscoring Flagstaff Academy’s ongoing commitment to excellence in early childhood education.

“This distinction reaffirms our dedication to providing a nurturing and enriching early learning environment for Longmont’s youngest learners,” said Katie Gustafson, Executive Principal of Flagstaff Academy. “We are incredibly proud of our early childhood staff and leadership for their unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and growth.”

The Colorado Shines rating process evaluates programs across several critical components, including health and safety practices, staff qualifications and training, learning environments, family engagement, and sound business operations. A Level 5 rating indicates a program that consistently goes above and beyond in these areas. Flagstaff Academy is the only child care center in Longmont to be awarded a Level 5 rating.

“From the very beginning, we’ve focused on creating a high-quality preschool program that supports the whole child,” said Melinda Steadman, Flagstaff Academy’s Preschool Director. “We’re thrilled to receive this recognition and proud to be a trusted option for families in our community.”

Colorado Shines is a free service provided by the Colorado Department of Human Services Office of Early Childhood, offering resources for families to find quality child care and preschool programs. The system provides transparency by rating licensed programs and sharing details including hours, location, licensing status, and quality rating.
