Homework Policy

The 5th grade year is used to prepare students for the rigor of Middle School. We build organizational and time management skills throughout the school year. Students can be prepared to have nightly math homework, Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), and a larger "Project of the Month."
Here are some quick facts about Homework in 5th grade:

  • Yellow Homework Folder: Comes home every night and is returned every morning.  Should always contain planner.
  • Math Worksheets nightly (Mon-Thurs).  These can also be done digitally through Pearson Realize.
  • Reading Assignments (CKLA or reading group) periodically throughout the week.
  • Projects of the Month will be assigned and communicated via the weekly newsletter.
  • Planner Check on Fridays.  Planner should be filled out, homework highlighted, and signed by a parent.

*** If a student exceeds the 50 min. nightly expectation, please stop them and write me a quick note to let me know.

Missing/Late Work Policy

In order to build responsibility with homework throughout the school year, students will follow the following policy to ensure that homework is used in a meaningful and timely fashion to ensure repetition of practice of essential literacy and math skills.

  • If an assignment is not turned in on the due date, students will be given one days grace period.
  • Then, if the assignment is still missing, students will fill out a zero/missing assignment slip that will go home to notify you that an assignment is missing.
  • Students will have until the following Monday to complete the assignment without any alteration to his/her grade.
  • If still missing, the assignment is a zero.

Printing math homework from home

A district update has changed the directions for printing math homework from home.  These directions can be found on my website and on the weekly newsletter: because the homework comes right from student workbooks, we do not have extra copies to provide for missing work. Please login through SVVSD's Ceran http://ceran.svvsd.org/es/. From there you will see enVision. Students will use their SVVSD login and password. Once a student has signed in to enVision 2.0 they will see a menu on the right-hand side of the page under "Learning Systems." If they click "Dash" they will be taken to the "Active ebook." Students and parents can scroll through the student book and click on each topic and lesson. Each lesson includes homework. If they click on the homework practice page it will be pulled up and they can use the printer icon at the top right of the page to print.
