Meet the 3rd Grade Team » Homework Policy

Homework Policy

Homework: Homework this year will consist of the 3 R’s:
  • Reading: We strongly encourage reading nightly, as it is a necessity to continue reading success in third grade. Reading can be independent or co-reading with a parent or a sibling.
  • Recitation:
    • Math Homework: Students will have five (5) math problems coming home Monday through Thursday. Math homework will be due the following day. Students should also be working on their multiplication math facts.
    • Spelling: A list of 16-20 spelling words will be coming home on Mondays.  Our spelling test will be on Fridays.
    • Writing: Every week, students will be responsible for responding to a writing prompt  or completing a CKLA workbook page.   Students will be assigned the writing prompt or CKLA worksheet on Monday and the assignment will be due on Friday.
  • Recreation: Movement and exercise is a component of homework! We ask that your child engage in some form of exercise or physical activity on a nightly basis. The goal is to raise the heart rate and get moving!

Late Policy:
If your child does not complete and/or turn in homework or daily classroom assignments, they will be sent home with the missing assignments on Monday of the following week. Students will then be given one week to complete the missing assignments.  No late work will be accepted after this point. Points will be deducted for late work. Thank you for your support and reinforcement with the late homework policy. If you have additional questions, please let your teacher know!

Extra Credit:
Any student that is unhappy with his/her test score can ask the teacher for an extra credit assignment boost a grade. Extra credit work should be turned in within one week of the test to receive credit.
