Technology at Flagstaff Academy

Flagstaff Academy has two Technology Labs, one for grades K- 3 and one for grades 4-8. Each lab is equipped with 30 internet-enabled PCs and a robust suite of software applications. SmartBoards are used in 5 classrooms, in addition to the 4th-8th grade tech lab, and the Library Media Center. In addition a mobile laptop lab of 18 laptop computers brings a technology lab into any classroom throughout the building.

  • The K-3 technology curriculum teaches basic computer literacy using a broad collection of activities and lessons targeted at young learners. It includes, but is not limited to, lessons on parts of the computer, keyboarding, internet safety, drawing, math and a variety of other PC-based lessons to help grow the confidence and success of young learners as they use a PC.
  • The Technology Lab for 4th - 8th grade builds on the skills learned in the early grades, enabling the students to take on more sophisticated projects. In these classes, lab projects focus on one of six key themes: Business and Entrepreneurialism, 2D/3D Design (Architectural, Mechanical, Product, etc.), Images (Static and Video), Computer & Internet Technology, Desktop publishing and History of Technology.

Technology Lab lessons at Flagstaff are often developed through collaboration between the technology teachers and the classroom teachers. This approach creates links between the topics the students are covering in their classrooms and the topics they work on in the tech labs.

Regardless of grade level, the technology curricula at Flagstaff Academy delivers innovative and challenging instruction that will help prepare students to navigate the computing and technology-rich landscape that is so much a part of the 21st century. These skills will serve them well throughout their lives, even if they choose a life path that is apart from technology, engineering or science.
