Enrolling at Flagstaff Academy
Enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year will be processed via lottery. The Open Enrollment window is from December 1st, 2008 - January 31st 2009, and the first lottery round will be in early Feb, 2009. After this date, remaining open slots will be filled through lotteries processed on each subsequent Friday, until classrooms are full. For classrooms that are full, waitlists will be maintained. More information on the lottery process can be found below.
In order to be included in the lottery and considered for enrollment at Flagstaff Academy, you must complete and submit an "Intent to Enroll" form, which may be downloaded from this website, or obtained at the school or at an enrollment clinic. The form must be returned to the school via email, fax, or by dropping it off at the school. Flagstaff Academy requests that you also attend an Information Clinic as part of the enrollment process, dates listed below.
If you have questions about enrollment or about Flagstaff Academy, please call 303-651-7900 x300.
Information Clinics
Flagstaff Academy will offer periodic Information Clinics to provide information on Flagstaff Academy and the enrollment process. Families will be able to tour the school during these clinics as well.
At this time, Information Clinics are being held every Tuesday and Friday at 1:00pm.
Middle School Shadow Days
Prospective middle school students are invited to come shadow a Flagstaff student to get a first hand experience of what Flagstaff Academy is like. Students will be allowed to stay all day and follow another student through a regular daily schedule.
Lottery
Once the open enrollment window has closed on January 31st, 2009 we will begin the lottery process. Since Flagstaff Academy receives federal charter school start-up funds, and since we anticipate more applications than available spaces, we must follow a lottery process. More information on the preferences given in the lottery can be seen below.
The first round of the lottery takes place in early Feb 2009. Each family selected through the lottery will be contacted via telephone and must respond in writing to Flagstaff Academy within 72 hours of receiving the acceptance notification. The written response must be received by Flagstaff Academy via email or dropped off at the school. The second round will begin one week after the first round. This process will continue until all classrooms are full.
If you have questions about the process, please contact the school Registrar at 303-651-7900 ext. 300.
Lottery Preference
Open Enrollment lottery preference is given in the following order:
1. Returning students
2. Founding Families
3. Siblings of current students
4. Community - SVVSD and all contiguous districts
5. Community - Students from districts non-contiguous to SVVSD
Note: The total number of students in categories 2-3 given preferred enrollment cannot total more than 10% of the overall student body population. Once the 10% limit is reached, the remaining students in these categories will be moved into their appropriate Community category. This 10% limitation for preferred enrollment is enforced because we receive federal charter school startup funds and must comply with this lottery policy in order to receive these funds.
Students on the waitlist for the previous school year will NOT automatically move into the lottery for the upcoming school year. Any students not currently enrolled and wishing to enroll for the upcoming school year must resubmit an Intent to Enroll form during the Open Enrollment period.
As Flagstaff Academy is a part of the St. Vrain Valley School District, the age requirements for enrollment follow SVVSD guidelines. In order to enter Kindergarten the child must be 5 years old by October 1st, and in order to enter 1st grade, the child must be 6 years old by October 1st.
